Onyc
In ARK: Survival Ascended, Onyc occupies the aerial scout niche - is commonly used for scouting and quick travel between locations. As a carnivore, it responds to passive taming - favoring Raw Mutton - and ships with 100% base Melee Damage, giving it solid damage output. It gives live birth after a gestation period, with offspring maturing over a lengthy period. Survivors lean on it to gather Hide, Raw Meat at much higher rates than hand tools. Players target Onyc once they need a reliable workhorse beyond the starter mounts.
Found across 21 maps in mountains, cliffsides, and elevated terrain. Green zones have the highest spawn density. Each species has a population cap per area, so wiping out other creatures nearby can trigger new Onyc spawns.

Harvesting a dead Onyc yields Hide, Raw Meat. The corpse has 120 harvest health, allowing multiple hits before it's fully depleted.
Different tools yield different quantities - check the table below to pick the right tool for the resource you need. Generally, a Pick favors meat while a Hatchet favors hide and secondary materials.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
