The Megaloceros is a medium-sized herbivore tamed for its exceptional gathering capabilities. It reduces the weight of harvested resources in its inventory, making it a valuable pack animal for long foraging trips. It can be airlifted by Argentavis or Karkinos for fast deployment.
Players typically tame the Megaloceros to efficiently farm plant-based resources across snowy and wasteland regions.
Megaloceros spawns in city, redwood, snow, snow-grassland, and wasteland biomes. It is very common and appears across 21 ARK maps. Look for it in open grassy zones and forest edges where vegetation is abundant.

Tame Megaloceros using the knockout method. Use a Bola, Bear Trap, or Plant Species Y to immobilize it first. Then sedate it with Tranq Arrow from a Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow.
Feed it Simple Kibble for the fastest taming. Mejoberry is a viable alternative. The taming process takes about 15 minutes with Simple Kibble and requires no Narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Megaloceros yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Pelt. The Hatchet harvests the most Hide and Pelt, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat yield.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, Megaloceros gathers from multiple categories including berries, fiber, mushrooms, rare flowers, sap, seeds, and wood. Its melee attack harvests up to 10× the normal amount of Mejoberry, Narcoberry, Stimberry, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, and Wood. It also gathers Cactus Sap and Fiber at 8× efficiency.
Megaloceros has a +120% weakness to Instant HurtDinos, making it highly vulnerable to certain environmental hazards. It takes +100% more damage from spike walls. It is highly resistant to fire, taking -60% damage. Avoid fire-based attacks when hunting it.

The Megaloceros harvests berries and seeds at 10× efficiency, making it ideal for kibble farming.
It gathers Wood at 10× the normal rate, excelling in early-game wood runs.
Its 80% weight reduction applies to most plant-based resources, greatly increasing effective carry capacity.
It can be carried by Argentavis, allowing fast aerial transport while preserving its inventory benefits.
It is highly vulnerable to spike walls, taking +100% damage, so avoid placing these near its pen.
It resists fire damage, taking only 40% of normal damage, making flame-based defenses ineffective.
