The Mantis is a small carnivore known for its role as a farmer. It excels at harvesting a wide variety of plant-based resources quickly while ridden. This makes it ideal for gathering large quantities of seeds, berries, and fiber for crop farming operations.
It can be carried by Karkinos, Quetzal, or Tusoteuth游戏副本, allowing for aerial transport and rapid deployment to remote resource nodes.
Mantis spawns commonly across 19 ARK maps. It inhabits biomes such as caves, deserts, mountains, oases, and volcanic regions. Look for it in rocky crevices or near cliff faces where its natural camouflage makes it difficult to spot.

Taming a Mantis is done passively by feeding it while mounted or from a safe distance. The best food is Deathworm Horn, which provides the fastest taming effectiveness. Woolly Rhino Horn also works but offers significantly less affinity.
The process takes about 5 minutes with Deathworm Horn and requires no narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.
| Food | Qty | Time | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|---|

Killing a Mantis yields Chitin, Raw Meat, and Organic Polymer. The Hatchet gives the most Chitin and Organic Polymer, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, the Mantis uses both its Melee and Leap Attack to harvest plant resources. Each attack gathers Berries, Fiber, Mushrooms, Seeds, Rare Flowers, Citronal, Longrass, Rockarrot, and Organic Polymer at double efficiency.
It excels at quickly clearing dense patches of crop plants and thatch-producing flora, making it a top choice for farm maintenance and seed collection.
Mantis has a strong vulnerability to fire damage, taking +100% more from fire-based attacks such as Fire Structure and projectile fire. It also takes +120% damage from instant-damage sources like turrets. Conversely, it is highly resistant to instant knockback effects, reducing their impact by 67%.

The head zone of the Mantis has a 1.5× damage multiplier, making headshots effective for faster knockout or killing. All other body parts take standard damage.
Can damage Thatch structures. Build at least in Wood to resist destruction.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Leap Attack has a 32m range and deals 120 damage, useful for triggering distant resource nodes safely.
Harvests Berries, Fiber, Seeds, and Mushrooms at 2× efficiency, making it one of the fastest plant gatherers in the game.
Can be carried by Quetzal or Karkinos, enabling airborne farming runs over inaccessible terrain.
Takes +100% damage from spike walls, making it vulnerable in base defenses using them.
