Farmer · 1 map
The Magmasaur is a large omnivore farmer creature. It reduces the weight of Metal, Metal Ingot, and Ambergris in its inventory, making it highly efficient for resource transport. This reduction allows survivors to carry more valuable resources with less encumbrance. It can be carried by Tusoteuthis for aerial deployment.
The Magmasaur is primarily tamed to assist in heavy hauling operations while benefiting from reduced weight on key resources.
Magmasaur spawns are rare and found exclusively in volcano biomes. It appears on only one ARK map, making sightings uncommon. Players should focus on high-heat volcanic zones when searching, as these areas have the highest spawn density.

Taming a Magmasaur requires collecting and hatching its egg, as it is an egg-tame creature. The best food for taming is Raw Prime Fish Meat, which provides the highest affinity gain. Raw Mutton also works well if Raw Prime Fish Meat is unavailable. To immobilize it during taming, use a Chain Bola, Bear Trap, or Large Bear Trap. The process takes approximately 30 minutes with optimal settings. Use the calculator below for your settings.
Magmasaur is tamable by stealing an Egg.
Killing a Magmasaur yields Hide, Raw Prime Meat, and Sulfur. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Prime Meat and Sulfur harvests.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, the Magmasaur gathers efficiently using its Bite and Claw attacks, yielding up to 9× multipliers on resources like Metal, Crystal, Flint, and Element Ore. Its VentForge ability harvests plant-based resources such as Mejoberry, Narcoberry, and Rare Flower with a 10× multiplier. This makes it ideal for targeted farming of high-value crops and rare materials.
The Magmasaur reduces Metal by -75%, Metal Ingot by -75%, and Ambergris by -50%. This allows for more efficient transport of heavy resources. Pair it with a Tusoteuthis to maintain weight reduction during flight.
Magmasaur takes +400% damage from SpikeWall attacks, making it extremely vulnerable to defensive spike walls. It is highly resistant to Projectile Fire and Mining Drill Harvest, taking -100% damage from both. Melee attacks with metal weapons deal +55% damage, so use Metal-based tools to exploit its weakness. Avoid using fire-based weapons, as they are completely ineffective.

The VentForge ability harvests plant resources like Mejoberry and Rare Flower with a 10× multiplier. Use this to farm rare seeds efficiently.
Its Bite and Claw attacks yield 9× multipliers on Element Ore, Crystal, and Metal, making it excellent for resource farming.
Magmasaur is highly vulnerable to spike walls, taking +400% damage. Avoid placing it near defensive perimeters with spike walls.
It can be carried by Tusoteuthis, enabling fast aerial transport without losing inventory weight benefits.
Magmasaur is immune to fire damage, making it ideal for volcanic or high-heat environments.
