Karkinos
The Karkinos is a knockout tame - render it unconscious with torpor weapons like Tranq Arrows or Shocking Tranq Darts, then feed it while it's down. The Karkinos loses Torpor at 0.5 per second while unconscious - stay on top of narcotics.
| Food | Food Quantity (Current/Max) | Taming Time | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|---|
Exceptional Kibble | 1:02:11 | 74 Lvl (224) 99.13% | |
Spoiled Meat | 2:21:31 | 66 Lvl (216) 88.03% | |
Raw Meat | 4:42:17 | 10 Lvl (160) 14.21% | |
Raw Fish Meat | 5:52:58 | 1 Lvl (151) 2.58% |
Check the taming results to see how long it takes to tame the Karkinos, what effectiveness you'll achieve, and how many bonus levels it gains. Better food means better results.
Below are the narcotic requirements for keeping the Karkinos sedated throughout taming. Bio Toxin is twice as potent as Narcotics (80 vs 40 Torpor per use), while Narcoberries work in a pinch at just 7.5 Torpor each. With Torpor draining at 0.5/s, don't wait until the bar is nearly empty to apply narcotics.
Use the torpor and starve timers to track your Karkinos tame in real time. Starve taming is recommended for valuable high-level Karkinos: let the Food stat deplete first, then add food. This way nothing is wasted if something goes wrong.
The table below shows how many hits from each torpor weapon are needed to knock out the Karkinos at different levels. Always pace your shots. Torpor takes time to apply, and over-shooting can be lethal.
To simplify the knockout, immobilize the Karkinos first with Chain Bola or Bear Trap. A Procoptodon can also pick it up and drop it into a taming pen for a controlled knockout.

ARK: Survival Ascended features the Karkinos as a tamable, carnivore creature that survivors will encounter in the wild. It belongs to the Farmer category.
With 1,200 base Health, the Karkinos is among the tougher creatures. Its base Melee Damage sits at 100%, giving it respectable melee power. With 600 base Stamina, the Karkinos has massive stamina reserves. A base Weight of 800 means massive inventory space.
To tame the Karkinos, you need to knock it unconscious using torpor weapons, then feed it while it's down. Feed it Exceptional Kibble for the fastest tame and highest effectiveness bonus.
Once tamed, the Karkinos combines solid harvesting capability with generous carrying capacity. It gives live birth after a gestation period, making breeding straightforward. Defeating one in the wild grants 6 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.5 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
