After hatching or birth, the baby Karkinos matures at a glacially slow pace - plan for a multi-day commitment, reaching adulthood in about 4 days and 19 hours at 1x maturation. The most labor-intensive part is the baby phase (0–10% maturation) when it can't use a Feeding Trough yet.

The Karkinos's growth progresses through three stages: Baby (0–10%) lasts ~694 min and requires constant hand-feeding. Juvenile (10–50%) spans ~46h - it can eat from a Trough now. Adolescent (50–100%) takes ~58h - continues eating from troughs, nearly fully grown.

Imprinting during maturation provides permanent stat bonuses. At 100% imprint, the Karkinos gains 30% bonus damage and resistance when ridden by the imprinter. Keep various kibble types on hand, as imprint requests are randomized between cuddles, walks, and kibble feeding.

During the Baby phase (0-10%), you must hand-feed or use a Maewing to nurse. From Juvenile (10%+), dinos can eat from a Feeding Trough on their own. Use Preserving Salt in troughs to double spoil times.

ARK: Survival Ascended features the Karkinos as a tamable, carnivore creature that survivors will encounter in the wild. It belongs to the Farmer category.

With 1,200 base Health, the Karkinos is among the tougher creatures. Its base Melee Damage sits at 100%, giving it respectable melee power. With 600 base Stamina, the Karkinos has massive stamina reserves. A base Weight of 800 means massive inventory space.

To tame the Karkinos, you need to knock it unconscious using torpor weapons, then feed it while it's down. Feed it Exceptional Kibble for the fastest tame and highest effectiveness bonus.

Once tamed, the Karkinos combines solid harvesting capability with generous carrying capacity. It gives live birth after a gestation period, making breeding straightforward. Defeating one in the wild grants 6 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.5 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
