Ferox is a small herbivore with a unique passive taming mechanic that triggers transformation and aggression cycles. Each feeding of Element advances taming progress, requiring survivors to survive its large aggressive form before re-feeding. It is typically tamed for its utility in transport due to its carryable size and weight reduction traits.
It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment.
Ferox does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Ferox is tamed using the Special Passive method. Feed it Element to trigger a transformation into a large aggressive form. Survive the aggression phase, then re-feed it Element once it reverts to complete a taming cycle. Higher-level individuals require more Element and repeated cycles.
Each feeding provides taming progress. The process takes about 1 minute with 1 Element at level 150 on Official settings. No Narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.
To tame a Ferox, feed it Element. It will transform into its large form and become aggressive. Survive until it reverts to small form, then feed it Element again. Repeat the cycle — each feeding adds taming progress. Higher-level Ferox require more Element and cycles.
Killing a Ferox yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
Ferox has a strong vulnerability to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% more damage. It is also weak to Explosion Demolition (+50%) and Melee WithProjectileImpactFX DoubleDinoDmg (+50%). SpikeWall damage is reduced by 50%, making spike walls less effective. Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks deal +55% damage. Explosion damage is reduced by 40%. Ranged Turret and Small DefensePlant damage is reduced by 50%.

The Head has a damage multiplier of 3x, making headshots highly effective for faster knockout. Target the head when immobilizing a Ferox.
Ferox can damage Thatch structures. Build at least in Wood to resist its attacks.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Sniff attack deals 6 damage and has a 2-meter range, though it is not used for gathering.
Ferox takes +120% more damage from Instant HurtDinos, making it highly vulnerable to such attacks.
It is weak to Explosion Demolition, taking 50% additional damage from demolition explosives.
Ferox can be immobilized using a Bola or Bear Trap during taming attempts.
It can be safely fed Element while inside a Bear Trap to prevent movement.
