The Dire Bear is a large omnivore that excels in melee combat and resource gathering. It reduces the weight of inventory items by up to 85%, making it ideal for hauling heavy loads over long distances. It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment.
Players tame the Dire Bear primarily for its exceptional gathering capabilities and durability in combat.

Killing a Dire Bear yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Pelt. The Hatchet yields the most Hide and Pelt. The Pick yields the most Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While mounted, the Dire Bear gathers from multiple categories including Berries, Fiber, Mushroom, Organic Polymer, Rare Flower, Plant Species X Seed, Plant Species Y Seed, and Rockarrot. Each attack gathers up to 10× the standard amount from these resources, making it highly efficient for farming rare plants and polymer.
The Dire Bear takes +120% more damage from dino attacks and +100% more from spike walls. It is highly vulnerable to these sources. Conversely, it is immune to mining drill damage and takes 50% less from melee weapons with impact effects. Avoid spike walls in defense. Level Health and Melee Damage.
