The Diplodocus is a massive herbivore with a long neck and tail. It provides significant weight reduction for inventory resources, making it ideal for hauling large quantities. It can be airlifted by Tusoteuthis for rapid transport across vast distances.
Players tame the Diplodocus primarily to carry heavy loads efficiently over land, especially during resource farming or base construction phases.
Diplodocus spawns commonly in Chalk Hills, Forest, Grassland, Jungle, and Redwood biomes. It appears across 21 ARK maps, making it widely accessible. Look for the green zones on the spawn map for the highest concentration.

Tame the Diplodocus passively by feeding it directly. Regular Kibble is the best food. Base Veggie works as a fallback if kibble is unavailable. No immobilization is required.
It takes about 37 units of kibble and roughly 12 minutes to tame. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Diplodocus.
Killing a Diplodocus yields Sauropod Vertebra, Hide, Raw Meat, and Raw Prime Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick and Dino (Prime) are optimal for Raw Meat and Raw Prime Meat respectively.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Diplodocus does not gather resources while ridden.
Diplodocus takes +400% more damage from spike walls, making them extremely effective in defense. It is highly resistant to fire, taking 60% less damage from flame-based attacks. It also suffers +55% damage from metal melee weapons and +50% from explosions. Focus on Health and Melee Damage for survivability.

Official servers use non-1× defaults; the values above already reflect official rates.

The head has a 1.5x damage multiplier, making it the optimal target for faster knockouts. All other body zones use standard damage values.
Diplodocus can break Thatch and Wood structures. Build at least in Stone to resist its damage.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Diplodocus has a head hitbox multiplier of 1.5x, making head shots more effective during knockout attempts.
It can be carried by Tusoteuthis, enabling fast aerial deployment.
Its inventory weight reductions apply only to resources, not structures or tools.
It takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos, such as those caused by certain environmental hazards.
