Diplocaulus
Taming the Diplocaulus requires applying enough torpor to knock it out. Use tranquilizer projectiles, then place food in its inventory. Torpor bleeds at 0.1/s, requiring regular sedative application to prevent a premature wakeup.

Use the calculator results to plan your tame - they show the exact time, food quantity, and bonus levels for the Diplocaulus based on your settings.
Below are the narcotic requirements for keeping the Diplocaulus sedated throughout taming. Bio Toxin is twice as potent as Narcotics (80 vs 40 Torpor per use), while Narcoberries work in a pinch at just 7.5 Torpor each. With Torpor draining at 0.1/s, don't wait until the bar is nearly empty to apply narcotics.
Track the taming process with the timers below - they monitor both Torpor and starvation progress. Torpor monitoring prevents premature wakeups. The starve timer is for the starve-tame method - let Food drop, then load all kibble at once to avoid waste.
Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Diplocaulus.
Estimated time until optimal feeding point: 20m 28s
Food to consume through starvation: 426
Target food level: 4824
Found throughout the ARKs, the Diplocaulus is a tamable, carnivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. It falls within the Water classification.
Its base Stamina of 165 gives it average stamina. Dealing 100% base Melee Damage, the Diplocaulus brings respectable melee power to the table. At 250 base HP, the Diplocaulus is not particularly tanky. It carries 150 base Weight - modest carrying capacity.
You'll need to knock the Diplocaulus unconscious before taming it. Tranquilizers are the standard approach. Feed it Simple Kibble for the fastest tame and highest effectiveness bonus.
Once tamed, the Diplocaulus is valued for its harvesting efficiency, collecting key resources faster than most tools. It reproduces by laying eggs, which must be incubated between -75°C and 75°C. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.4 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
Use the knockout chart to see exactly how many Tranq Arrows, Darts, or other torpor weapons it takes to down the Diplocaulus. Space your shots to let torpor accumulate - rapid firing risks killing it before knockout.
To simplify the knockout, immobilize the Diplocaulus first with Bola or Bear Trap. Alternatively, use a Argentavis to airlift it into a pre-built trap.
