The Dilophosaur is a small carnivore known for its ability to spit a debilitating venomous projectile at enemies. This attack induces torpor, making it highly effective for knocking out creatures without dealing significant damage. It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment. Players commonly tame it to assist in taming larger creatures using its torpor-inducing spit attack.
Dilophosaurs are also capable of carrying smaller creatures in their jaws, allowing for mobile transport of unconscious dinos during collection efforts.
Dilophosaurs spawn across 21 ARK maps, appearing in diverse biomes including beaches, caves, cities, forests, jungles, snowy regions, swamps, volcanoes, and wastelands. They are very commonly encountered, making them accessible to most survivors. The green zones on the spawn map indicate the highest concentration of wild individuals.

Dilophosaurs must be tamed via knockout. The best food for taming is Basic Kibble, which provides the fastest affinity gain. Raw Mutton also works, though it is significantly slower. Use a Bola or Bear Trap to immobilize it, then sedate with Tranq Arrow shots from a Crossbow or similar weapon. The process takes about 3 minutes with 3 units of Basic Kibble and no narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Dilophosaur yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet provides the most Hide, while the Pick yields the most Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Dilophosaur has a +120% weakness to Instant HurtDinos damage, making it highly vulnerable to certain explosive or area-effect sources. It also takes +55% more damage from Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks and +50% more from Explosion Demolition and Melee WithProjectileImpactFX DoubleDinoDmg sources. Conversely, it is highly resistant to mining drill harvesting, spike walls, and ranged turret attacks, all of which deal -50% damage. Level Health and Melee Damage.
