The Chalicotherium is a medium-sized herbivore with a unique gathering specialization. It excels at harvesting Berries, Seeds, Fiber, Wood, and other plant-based resources at highly increased rates while being ridden. This makes it a top choice for survivors focused on efficient resource farming in dangerous or remote areas.
It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment to harvest zones.
Chalicotherium spawns in Forest, Jungle, Snow, and Wasteland biomes. It appears across 21 ARK maps and is considered uncommon. Look for green zones on the spawn map for the highest density areas.

Chalicotherium uses passive taming, requiring no knockout. Feed it Beer Jar while riding or standing nearby to begin taming. Stimberry can also be used but provides significantly less affinity. About 19 Beer Jars are needed. The tame takes approximately 12 minutes with full effectiveness and no Narcotics needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Chalicotherium yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Raw Prime Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick favors Raw Meat and the Dino (Prime) tool is best for Raw Prime Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While mounted, Chalicotherium gathers Berries, Seeds, Fiber, Wood, Cactus Sap, Mushrooms, Rare Flowers, and Rare Mushrooms. Its Melee Hand and Melee Bite attacks harvest these resources at a 10× multiplier, making it extremely efficient. Wood and all berry types are gathered at peak efficiency, far surpassing most other herbivores.
Chalicotherium takes +120% more damage from Instant HurtDinos sources and +100% from spike walls, making it highly vulnerable in defensive setups. It is -60% resistant to fire damage, reducing incoming fire-based attacks. Avoid placing it near spike walls or explosive traps.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Seated Buff ability activates when mating, providing a passive benefit to the rider. Use Melee Hand or Melee Bite for maximum harvest efficiency on plant resources.
It can be carried by Quetzal or Tusoteuthis, allowing for aerial transport to remote biomes.
Its high vulnerability to spike walls means it should never be used in automated defense lines.
