Flyer · 1 map
The Astrocetus is a large carnivorous flyer. It utilizes a special passive taming method that requires knocking it out with precise headshots from cannons. Once tamed, it excels at resource gathering and aerial transport due to its high inventory capacity and unique harvest abilities. It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
This creature is primarily used for efficient node farming and cargo hauling in mid-tier structures, leveraging its ability to gather multiple resources quickly while airborne. Its special passive also makes it valuable in structured PvE scenarios where control and timing are critical.
The Astrocetus spawns in lunar biomes across 1 ARK map. It is commonly encountered in these zones, making it relatively easy to locate. The green zones on the spawn map indicate highest spawn density.

Taming an Astrocetus requires a special passive method. You must first knock it out by targeting its head with cannons. A Cannon mounted on a Tek Skiff is the recommended method for precision. Immobilize it using a Bear Trap or Large Bear Trap to prevent movement during the process. Once unconscious, feed it Extraordinary Kibble to complete the tame. The process takes about 12 minutes. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing an Astrocetus yields Hide, Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, and Ambergris. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat. Dino (Prime) tools are best for harvesting Raw Prime Meat and Ambergris.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Astrocetus gathers resources using its Bite and Tail attacks. The Bite harvests Charcoal, Chitin, Fungal Wood, Keratin, Raw Salt, Spoiled Meat, and Wood at 3× efficiency. It also gathers Crystal, Metal, Obsidian, Oil, Stone, and Sulfur at 1.56×. The Tail attack deals damage but does not gather resources. This makes the Bite ideal for rapid node clearing on resource-rich surfaces.
The Astrocetus takes +400% damage from spike walls, making them extremely effective for perimeter defense. It also takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos and +55% from Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks. Conversely, it has a -100% damage modifier against Mining Drill Harvest, rendering it immune to that damage type. It resists explosions by 50%. Level Health and Melee Damage.
