Flyer
The Astrocetus is a massive flying carnivore with a unique passive taming mechanic. It reduces the weight of gathered resources while providing aerial transport across vast distances. This makes it ideal for long-range resource expeditions where efficiency and speed are critical.
It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
Astrocetus does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Taming an Astrocetus requires a special passive method involving knockout via cannon fire to the head. A Cannon mounted on a Tek Skiff is the most effective way to achieve this with precision. Once unconscious, feed it Extraordinary Kibble to complete the process.
Use a Bear Trap or Large Bear Trap to immobilize it during the attempt. About 12 Extraordinary Kibble are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.
To tame an Astrocetus, you must knock it out by targeting its head with cannons. A Cannon mounted on a Tek Skiff is the recommended method for precision. Once unconscious, feed it Extraordinary Kibble to complete the tame.
Killing an Astrocetus yields Hide, Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, and Ambergris. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick, Dino (Prime), and Dino (Prime) are best for Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, and Ambergris respectively.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Bite attack gathers resources from a wide range of categories including crystal, metal, obsidian, oil, stone, sulfur, and wood. It provides a 3x yield on Fungal Wood, Spoiled Meat, and Wood, making it highly efficient for organic materials. Other resources like Crystal, Metal, Obsidian, Oil, Stone, and Sulfur are gathered at a 1.56x rate.
The Astrocetus has a +400% weakness to spike walls, making them extremely effective for defense. It also takes +120% damage from instant hurt sources and +55% more from metal melee attacks. It is highly resistant to mining drill harvest, explosions from rockets (-50%), and piercing projectiles (-50%).

The Head has a damage multiplier of 1.5x, making it the optimal target for efficient knockouts. Focus cannon fire on the head during taming attempts.
Can break Thatch, Wood, and Stone. Build at least in Metal.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Bite attack gathers Fungal Wood at a 3x multiplier, ideal for rapid thatch farming.
It takes +400% damage from spike walls, making defensive perimeters highly effective.
A Cannon headshot is required for taming, so precision aiming is critical.
It can be carried by Quetzal or Karkinos, enabling fast aerial transport.
