The Araneo is a small, carnivorous creature with a unique utility role. It provides significant weight reduction for inventory resources when carried, making it invaluable for transport efficiency. It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Kaprosuchus, Quetzal, or Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment across vast distances.
Players tame Araneo primarily to reduce the weight burden of harvested resources during long hauls.
Araneo spawns in caves, cities, forests, mountains, oases, swamps, volcanoes, and wastelands. It is very common and appears across 23 ARK maps, making it easy to locate in most environments.

Araneo is tamed via knockout using tranquilizing weapons. The best food is Superior Kibble, with Spoiled Meat as a viable alternative. It can be immobilized using a Bola, Bear Trap, or Plant Species Y.
Use a Bow with Tranq Arrows or a Longneck Rifle with Tranquilizer Darts for efficient sedation. The taming process takes around 13 minutes and requires approximately 14 units of Superior Kibble at level 150 on official rates. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Araneo.
Killing an Araneo yields Chitin and Raw Meat. The Pick provides the highest quantity of Raw Meat, while a Dino with an Omnivore mouth type harvests the most Chitin.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
Araneo takes +120% more damage from Instant HurtDinos, making it extremely vulnerable to certain environmental hazards and creature attacks. It is highly resistant to Mining Drill Harvest and Melee WithProjectileImpactFX, both reducing damage by 50%. Exploiting its weakness with piercing projectiles or explosive damage is effective in combat.
