Variant
The X-Megalodon is a variant carnivore found in Genesis: Part 1. It possesses increased melee damage and reduced health compared to the standard Megalodon, making it a more aggressive predator in aquatic combat. This creature excels in taking down large water-based threats and structures, favored for raids and defense penetration.
It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
X-Megalodon does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Tame the X-Megalodon using the knockout method. Superior Kibble is the most effective food, providing the fastest taming effectiveness. Raw Mutton also works, though it yields significantly slower results. Use Tranq Arrows fired from a Bow or Crossbow to sedate it safely. Avoid using melee weapons like the Wooden Club unless necessary.
The taming process takes around 42 minutes with approximately 11 units of Superior Kibble. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing an X-Megalodon yields Megalodon Tooth, Raw Fish Meat, and Raw Prime Fish Meat. The Dino (Fish Harvest) tool provides the highest yield of Raw Fish Meat, while the Sickle maximizes Raw Prime Fish Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The X-Megalodon is highly vulnerable to spike walls, which deal +400% damage. It also takes +120% more damage from Instant HurtDinos sources and +55% more from Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks. On the other hand, it is fully resistant to Mining Drill Harvest damage and takes 50% less from Explosions and Ranged Turret Small DefensePlant attacks. Focus on avoiding spike wall placements in defensive builds.

The head is a critical hit zone, taking 1.5× damage compared to other body parts. Target this area to reduce taming or combat time. All other hit zones apply standard damage multipliers.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
Spike walls exploit a critical vulnerability, dealing +400% damage. Use them in static defenses to counter X-Megalodon assaults.
It takes 50% less damage from Explosions, making it resilient against artillery and rocket-based attacks.
The X-Megalodon ignores Mining Drill Harvest damage entirely, rendering mining drills ineffective.
Due to its aquatic nature, engage it in open water where its speed and maneuverability are maximized.
Avoid using Shocking Tranquilizer Darts in deep water, as they may cause unintended aggression from nearby predators.
