Stegosaurus
Taming the Stegosaurus requires applying enough torpor to knock it out. Use tranquilizer projectiles, then place food in its inventory. Once unconscious, Torpor drains at 0.1/s, so keep Narcotics or Bio Toxin ready.
| Food | Food Quantity (Current/Max) | Taming Time | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|---|
Regular Kibble | 40:56 | 74 Lvl (224) 99.8% | |
Archelon Algae | 48:01 | 74 Lvl (224) 98.77% | |
Crops | 3:11:25 | 62 Lvl (212) 83.37% | |
Mejoberry | 3:11:16 | 55 Lvl (205) 73.83% | |
Berries | 3:11:24 | 41 Lvl (191) 55.61% |
The results below show total taming time, effectiveness, and bonus levels for the Stegosaurus at your selected level and food. Higher-quality foods yield more bonus levels.
Use the narcotic calculator to determine exactly how many Narcotics, Bio Toxin, or Narcoberries you need for the Stegosaurus. Your options are Narcotics (40 Torpor), Bio Toxin (80 Torpor, best efficiency), or Narcoberries (7.5 Torpor, cheapest but slowest). With Torpor draining at 0.1/s, don't wait until the bar is nearly empty to apply narcotics.
Use the torpor and starve timers to track your Stegosaurus tame in real time. Starve taming is recommended for valuable high-level Stegosaurus: let the Food stat deplete first, then add food. This way nothing is wasted if something goes wrong.
The table below shows how many hits from each torpor weapon are needed to knock out the Stegosaurus at different levels. Always pace your shots. Torpor takes time to apply, and over-shooting can be lethal.
To simplify the knockout, immobilize the Stegosaurus first with Chain Bola or Bear Trap. Alternatively, use a Procoptodon to airlift it into a pre-built trap.

Estimated time until optimal feeding point: 40m 56s
Food to consume through starvation: 2728

Found throughout the ARKs, the Stegosaurus is a tamable, herbivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. It belongs to the Soaker category.
Starting at 650 Health, it's impressively tough. Dealing 100% base Melee Damage, the Stegosaurus brings decent hitting power to the table. With 300 base Stamina, the Stegosaurus has average stamina. A base Weight of 500 means massive inventory space.
Taming the Stegosaurus requires rendering it unconscious first - use Tranq Arrows, Darts, or Shocking Tranq Darts to apply torpor. For best results, use Regular Kibble - it gives the highest taming efficiency.
Once tamed, the Stegosaurus is valued for its harvesting efficiency, collecting key resources faster than most tools. It reproduces by laying eggs, which must be incubated between 22°C and 28°C. Defeating one in the wild grants 5 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.29 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
