The Megalodon is a large aquatic carnivore known for its devastating bite and dominance in deep water environments. It excels at destroying enemy structures and is a powerful combat mount in oceanic zones. Players tame it to control key underwater areas and raid submerged bases with ease.
Megalodons spawn in deep-ocean, ocean, and cave biomes. They are very common and appear across 19 ARK maps. Look for them patrolling the lower depths near underwater cliffs and trenches.

Tame a Megalodon using knockout methods. Use a Longneck Rifle with Tranquilizer Darts or a Crossbow with Tranq Arrows to sedate it. Superior Kibble is the best food. Raw Mutton also works well. The process takes about 42 minutes and requires no Narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Megalodon yields Megalodon Tooth, Raw Fish Meat, and Raw Prime Fish Meat. The Dino (Fish Harvest) tool gathers the most Raw Fish Meat, while the Sickle maximizes Raw Prime Fish Meat yield.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Megalodon takes +400% more damage from spike walls, making them extremely effective for defense. It is also highly vulnerable to explosions and melee attacks from metal weapons. Conversely, it resists mining drill damage completely and takes reduced damage from ranged turrets and certain melee impacts. Level Health and Melee Damage.

The Megalodon has a head hitbox that takes 1.5× damage, making headshots effective for faster knockout. Focus tranquilizer shots on the head for optimal sedation efficiency.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
Use spike walls to exploit its extreme vulnerability, dealing massive damage in base defense.
Explosives and metal melee weapons are highly effective due to its damage weaknesses.
Avoid using Mining Drill Harvest tools against it—they deal no damage.
Its resistance to ranged turrets makes it durable in automated kill zones.
