The Ice Elemental is a large, mineral-eating variant creature. It excels at harvesting a wide range of resources from nodes using its melee and swipe attacks. Players tame it primarily for its exceptional gathering efficiency across multiple high-tier materials. It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
It does not breed and must be tamed via knockout. Its inventory reduces weight for several key resources, enhancing transport logistics when paired with flying carriers.
Ice Elemental spawns in desert biomes. It is very rare and appears on only one ARK map. Focus your search in arid, open zones where spawn density is highest.

Tame the Ice Elemental using knockout methods. Use a Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow with Tranq Arrows to sedate it safely. The best food is Sulfur, which provides the fastest taming affinity. Clay can also be used if Sulfur is unavailable. The process takes around 503 minutes and requires approximately 407 Narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing an Ice Elemental yields Crystal, Stone, Obsidian, Oil, Metal, and Sulfur. The Pick is the best tool for harvesting all of these resources from its corpse.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, the Ice Elemental gathers efficiently from multiple resource categories including crystal, metal, obsidian, oil, and sulfur. Its Melee Attack and Swipe harvest at 9× multiplier on resources like Crystal, Metal, Obsidian, Oil, Blue Gem, and Green Gem. It also gathers Cementing Paste, Condensed Gas, and Organic Polymer at the same high rate.
The Ice Elemental has a strong weakness to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% more damage from them. It is highly resistant to fire, taking -100% damage from FlameThrower and Projectile Fire. It also resists melee and instant damage by -90%. Level Health and Melee Damage to maximize durability and gathering output.
