Dilophosaur

Overview

The Dilophosaur is a small carnivore known for its ability to spit a debilitating venomous projectile at enemies. This attack induces torpor, making it highly effective for knocking out creatures without dealing significant damage. It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment. Players commonly tame it to assist in taming larger creatures using its torpor-inducing spit attack.

Dilophosaurs are also capable of carrying smaller creatures in their jaws, allowing for mobile transport of unconscious dinos during collection efforts.

More about taming the Dilophosaur

Dilophosaurs must be tamed via knockout. The best food for taming is Basic Kibble, which provides the fastest affinity gain. Raw Mutton also works, though it is significantly slower. Use a Bola or Bear Trap to immobilize it, then sedate with Tranq Arrow shots from a Crossbow or similar weapon. The process takes about 3 minutes with 3 units of Basic Kibble and no narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Tips

  • The Dilophosaur's spit attack has a 12-second cooldown and induces torpor, making it ideal for non-lethal taming operations.
  • It can carry unconscious creatures in its jaws, allowing safe transport without external support.
  • This creature is highly resistant to ranged turrets and spike walls, making it durable in defensive perimeters.
  • It is highly vulnerable to explosion-based damage, so avoid using it near explosive traps or Tek-tier weapons.
  • It can be immobilized with a Bola or Bear Trap, simplifying the taming process.
  • It is susceptible to torpor from other sources, so protect it during knockout tames.
