Variant
The Aberrant Doedicurus is a herbivorous variant creature with a unique weight reduction ability. It reduces the weight of Stone by 75% in its inventory, making it highly efficient for stone transport. Players typically tame it to streamline resource collection and hauling, especially when paired with carriers like Argentavis or Karkinos for rapid deployment.
It can be carried by Quetzal, Karkinos, and Tusoteuthis, enabling fast aerial or aquatic transport across long distances.
The Aberrant Doedicurus spawns in cave and fertile zone biomes across 14 ARK maps. It is very rare, so players may need to explore multiple cave systems to locate one. The highest spawn density is typically found in the deeper sections of cave networks.

Tame the Aberrant Doedicurus using the knockout method. Use a Chain Bola or trap it in a Bear Trap or Large Bear Trap to immobilize it. Then use ranged weapons like the Bow, Crossbow, or Fabricated Sniper Rifle with Tranq Arrows or Tranquilizer Darts to knock it out.
Feed it Regular Kibble for the fastest taming. About 17 kibble are needed at level 150. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing an Aberrant Doedicurus yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Keratin. The Hatchet is the best tool for harvesting Hide and Keratin, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat yield.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While mounted, the Aberrant Doedicurus gathers a wide range of resources using its tail attacks. It excels at harvesting Blue Gem, Crystal, Metal, Obsidian, and Silica Pearls, each at a 21× multiplier. It also gathers resources from categories like berries, gas, mushrooms, polymer, and stone, making it a versatile gatherer for rare and common materials alike.
The Aberrant Doedicurus reduces the weight of Stone by 75% in its inventory. Pair it with carriers like Argentavis or Quetzal to maintain this reduction during flight.
The Aberrant Doedicurus has a 60% resistance to fire damage, making it highly resistant to fire-based attacks. It has a 120% weakness to Instant HurtDinos, meaning it takes significantly more damage from instant-damage sources. Spike walls also deal 100% more damage. Level Health and Melee Damage to maximize durability and gather efficiency.

The tail attack gathers Blue Gem and Obsidian at a 21× multiplier, making it one of the best gem and ore harvesters.
It reduces Stone weight by 75%, ideal for large-scale stone transport operations.
Can be carried by Argentavis, allowing for aerial resource drops in remote areas.
Its fire resistance makes it durable in volcanic or fire-heavy environments.
It is highly vulnerable to spike walls and instant-damage mechanics, so avoid placing it in such defenses.
